Marco Island enjoys the ideal climate for growing Mangoes. This wonderful fruit has have been planted in Florida for over 100 years. They can be found in throughout Marco Island not far from Boat House Motel. The outside color varies from greenish to orangey red and the insides are bright orange. Mangos are high in vitamins A and C. They are delicious served with ice cream, cereal or blended in a drink. Mangoes are used in jams and chutneys and are fine accompaniments for breads. Mangos are also used in sauces and dips.
For all you mango lovers out there here’s an easy mango salsa recipe courtesy of the Boat House Motel. It is delicious served over broiled grouper and shrimp. It is also ideal for dipping tortilla chips!

Mango Salsa Ingredients
1 mango – peeled, seeded, and chopped
¼ finely chopped red bell pepper
1 green onion, chopped
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
1 fresh jalapeno chile pepper, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
1 table spoon of lime juice
In a medium bowl, mix mango, red bell pepper, green onion, cilantro, jalapeno, lime juice, and lemon juice. Cover, and allow to sit at least 30 minutes before serving.
